THE GREAT ROUTE OF FILM BY ANDALUSIA
Monasterio de San Isidoro del Campo, Santiponce, Sevilla

The San Isidoro del Campo monastery was founded in 1301 by Alonso Pérez de Guzmán and María Alonso Coronel in a place near the Itálica ruins, where, based on tradition, Saint Isidore of Seville was said to be buried and, ever since, it has been under the spiritual and temporary management of different religious orders – Cistercian, Hieronymite hermits, Saint Jerome’s Order, etc. – which have left their mark on both the construction as well as the embellishment of the building.

Here was filmed…

The San Isidoro del Campo monastery, in Santiponce (Seville), was the set for ‘Alatristes scenes where Diego Alatriste has a meeting with the general inquisitor Francisco Bocanegra, played by Blanca Portillo. Plus, this town hosted the only press conference given during the fifteen-week shooting in Andalusia and, in that conference, all actors agreed and highlighted that shooting in Andalusia was “a luxury”.
