It was made by the sculptor Juan Navarro León in 1794. It is located in the Capuchinos Square, one of the most beautiful places in Córdoba, which connects two of the most popular neighbourhoods in the city. The Christ is surrounded by eight lanterns, which give it its famous name.
This Christ is so popular that Antonio Molina dedicated it a song and starred in a movie called ‘The Christ of the Lanterns‘. As for the square in which is located the Christ, it was the place where Franco Zeffirelli films the death of Carmen in ‘Callas forever‘.
