THE GREAT ROUTE OF FILM BY ANDALUSIA
Tarifa, Cádiz

Well known for its amazing beaches, its characteristic wind makes it one of the favourite spots for surfers, windsurfers and all kinds of cruising sports. Open to two seas, it is the most southern city in Europe.

The old quarter in the city of Tarifa, demarcated by its old medieval walls, was declared Asset of Cultural Interest in 2003 in the category of Monumental Ensembles.

Here was filmed…

It was in the dunes of Punta Paloma where the shooting of Agustín Díaz Yanes’ Alatriste started in Andalusia. On the beach of Valdevaqueros (Tarifa), a galleon measuring 98 feet in length and 30 feet in beam was built, which perfectly recreated 17th-century vessels. Contrary to what usually happens in the area, there was no wind at all. Nevertheless, the production company had planned that, in case it was excessive, they would move to the historical Castillo de Guzmán el Bueno castle, in the urban area, to continue shooting.
