Plaza de la Merced

In the film ‘Summer Rain’, this place is easily recognisable because the character Miguelito Dávila walks Luli there.

The house where Picasso was born and the obelisk in honour of General Torrijos are located in this square. It is a romantic square, formerly known as Plaza del Mercado (Market Square).

Next to the square, on Calle Merced street, you can find the current market of La Merced, which has been rebuilt and turned into a Gastronomic and Cultural Centre. Coming out of the square towards Calle Madre de Dios we find the Teatro Cervantes theatre, where the Malaga Spanish Film Festival is held every year.
