The Santo Domingo Convent
Filmed here
The Santo Domingo Convent was used in the third series to portray a Greek convent, where Princess Alice of Battenberg, Prince Philip’s mother, was residing in 1967.
The Church and Convent of Santo Domingo form a Catholic enclave in Jerez de la Frontera and are based on one of the first temples to be erected outside the city walls. According to tradition it was here that Catholic mass was first celebrated after the reconquest of the city around 1266. The convent and ecclesiastical complex of Santo Domingo is one of the most valuable examples of Andalusian heritage, and its architecture combines Mudejar, Gothic and Renaissance elements.
Situated next to the Convent of Santo Domingo are the cloisters of the same name. They became municipal property in 1983 and currently host exhibitions and cultural events.
