One of the most emblematic areas of Cádiz, the Cuesta de las Calesas, 1 kilometer long, connects the entrance to the historic center with the surroundings of the port of Cádiz and the customs area.

A symbol of a powerful area, it was the site of the tobacco factory and the Santo Domingo convent. It gets its name from the horse-drawn carriages (calesas) for two or four people that carried passengers from the port of Cádiz, then known as “the dock,” and where the best goods arrived in the city. A service that at that time was only available to those who could afford it.

Today, apart from Santo Domingo, one of the most recognizable religious buildings in Cádiz, we can also find the Congress Palace and the Court of Justice.

At the Court of Justice in Cádiz, located on Cuesta de las Calesas, the scene from ‘Andrea’s Love’ was filmed in which, after fighting to see her father, Andrea secures a hearing in court to discuss the details of custody and be able to see him more often.
