This popular neighborhood in Málaga is located to the east of the city, stretching from the Arroyo Jaboneros to the Olías Road. The origin of its name has never been clear, with various legends suggesting it may derive from the mast of a shipwreck that washed ashore and remained anchored on the beach, or from a log carried by a stream that became embedded in the area known as “Las Cuatro Esquinas.”

With a rich fishing tradition, the neighborhood faces the sea and features a lively beach where locals spend much of their time. The coastline spans just over a kilometer and is home to some of the city’s most frequented beach bars (chiringuitos). Additionally, traditional Málaga fishing boats, known as jábegas, can still be spotted along this vibrant stretch.

In this neighborhood was the headquarters of the newspaper SUR, where Miren, the protagonist of ‘The Snow Girl’, works. It also housed the workshop where images from a camera are analyzed for potential clues about a package left at the editorial office. Additionally, the neighborhood features the house of one of the suspects and the SAT Electrónica store, where Miren uncovers a significant lead.
