The former hospital is now called Hospital Doctor Muñoz Cariñanos, an otolaryngologist doctor who was murdered by ETA on 16 October 2000. The health complex in which the hospital is located, which includes the headquarters of the health district and a health centre, maintains the name of Rogelio Vigil de Quiñones, the doctor from Marbella who resisted in the siege of Baler with the last of the Philippines between 1898 and 1899.
During the period when the hospital was closed, it was used as a natural set for many films of the time. Scenes for Benito Zambrano’s ‘Solas’ and Santi Amodeo’s ‘Cabeza de Perro’were filmed in this hospital.
