The Genovés Park is a historic garden located in the center of Cádiz, near the Paseo de Santa Bárbara. Its origins date back to the late 18th century, although it has undergone various expansions and renovations throughout its history. The most significant transformation occurred at the end of the 19th century when Venetian gardener Eduardo Genovés y Puig turned it into a true botanical showcase in a romantic style, shaping its current design.
The park features over 150 different species of trees, palms, and shrubs, most of which are exotic and originate from other continents. A highlight of the park is the pond with a waterfall, which conceals a grotto within. Other notable features include sculptures such as those of José Celestino Mutis, José María Pemán, the Duchess of Victoria, and the Battle of Trafalgar, along with the famous “Children Under the Umbrella” ensemble.
Genovés Park was declared a Cultural Heritage Site by the Junta de Andalucía and is included in the General Catalog of Andalusian Historical Heritage.
