This Sevillian neighborhood originated during the 15th and 16th centuries, when, due to the city’s growing population, small urban settlements began to form along the banks of the Guadalquivir River, centered around the commercial activity of the Port of Seville. One of these hubs, located near the Puerta Real in the area now known as Plaza de Armas, specialized in smoking fish to supply provisions for sailors embarking for the Americas. The smoke produced by these salting and smoking activities led Renaissance-era Sevillians to name the area the “arrabal de los Humeros” — the suburb of the Smokers.
The streets of the neighborhood appear as the underworld through which the ‘Unit 7’team moves in Alberto Rodríguez’s film. This is where the movie begins and the opening chase scene kicks off.
