The Jewish Quarter of Seville was the neighborhood where the city’s Jewish community settled following the conquest of Seville by Ferdinand III of Castile in 1248, remaining there until their expulsion under the Edict of Granada issued by the Catholic Monarchs. Today, this area of the city is still known as the Judería and includes the neighborhoods of Santa Cruz and San Bartolomé.
The frantic chase that opens the film ‘Unit 7’was shot in fragments across various streets and rooftops throughout the city. Seville’s old Jewish quarter proved to be the ideal setting to find narrow streets and make the rooftop jump featured in the chase scene believable—specifically, it was filmed on San Clemente Street. The maze-like layout of the area’s streets was also used to recreate parts of the marginalized Seville portrayed in the film.
