Plaza Melgarejo is a small square, one side of which features the main entrance to the Church of San Juan. On the opposite side, there is a magnificent example of a house-winery, and on another side, the façade of the ancient Palace of Melgarejo.

The house-winery located at the corner of Plaza Melgarejo and Calle San Juan follows the traditional model of a house-courtyard, the basic living unit in the city. The access to the winery, which has two naves, is through the entrance hall rather than from the courtyard, which in this case serves as an element for ventilation and light.

In the winery courtyard, the scene of the tabanco (a traditional wine tavern) where Doña Carola Gorostiza and Mauro Larrea’s son meet was filmed. Also, in Calle San Juan, the murder of Santos Huesos, Don Mauro’s loyal servant, takes place in the series ‘The Vineyard’.
