The Murillo Gardens are a green space located next to the Santa Cruz neighborhood, nestled between the Alcázar walls and Seville’s Historic Ring Road. Adjacent to the Paseo de Catalina de Ribera, both were declared Assets of Cultural Interest in 2002.
Previously known as the Gardens of Retiro, their design was carried out in 1915 by Juan Talavera, shaping the layout we see today. In 1918, at the request of the director of El Liberal newspaper, the gardens were named after painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, who was buried in the church once located in the nearby Santa Cruz square.
