San Miguel Street is located in the heart of Cádiz, near the Cathedral and other tourist attractions. At number 16, there is a niche featuring a remarkable marble sculpture depicting the Archangel who lends his name to the street. Wielding his sword, he stands with his foot firmly upon a humbled and distraught Lucifer.
Nearby lies the Gadir Archaeological Site, one of the oldest Phoenician settlements in the West, discovered beneath the Puppet Theater. Here, visitors can observe many fossilized tracks left by various bovids that once roamed these streets. The site’s narrative revolves around the figure of Mattan, a Phoenician who perished in a major fire in the city during the 6th century BCE, whose remains are preserved within the site.
In the film ‘Andrea’s Love’ by Manuel Martín Cuenca, the exteriors of Andrea’s house were filmed on this street. The interiors, however, were shot in a house located on Carmen Coronada Street.
