Rising above the waters of the Mediterranean and dotted with white villages, the Sierra de Grazalema is the rainiest natural area on the Iberian Peninsula. Located in the westernmost part of the Betic massif, these mountains have been carved by the rains, giving rise to one of the most rugged mountain ranges in Andalusia. This is why it is home to numerous topographical landmarks of great interest.
The Sierra Grazalema mountain range served as a natural setting for some of the scenes in Season 3 of ‘His Dark Materials’. One of the locations used for filming was the town of Villaluenga del Rosario, located in Llanos del Republicano, which contributes to the setting of this fantasy series thanks to its rugged, mountainous terrain.
