The year is 1575. The young Miguel de Cervantes, wounded in a naval battle, is captured on the high seas by Algerian corsairs whilst returning to Spain. Miguel, aware that a cruel death awaits him in Algiers if his ransom is not paid soon, finds an unexpected refuge in his passion for storytelling. His fascinating tales restore hope to his fellow prisoners and eventually catch the attention of Hassan, the mysterious and feared Bey of Algiers, with whom he begins to develop a strange bond. As tensions rise amongst his fellow prisoners, Miguel, driven by his unwavering optimism, begins to devise a daring escape plan.
