Higuera de la Sierra
This municipality is located in the northeast of the province of Huelva, close to that of Seville. It forms part of the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Nature Park, one of the most important protected areas in Andalusia and occupies the entire north of the province. With its typical meadows, rolling hills and low mountains, covered predominantly with wooded areas of holm oaks, cork oaks and chestnut trees, it has numerous streams and forms a landscape of great beauty which is ideal for livestock and particularly the Iberian pig, for which the conditions are perfect.
The village itself and the Church of San Sebastián are listed as Sites of Cultural Interest whilst the Chapels of San Antonio and Cristo del Rosario, the old Bullring and the area known as Las Tobas are also of considerable interest.

Some 15 locations in Higuera de la Sierra were used in ‘The Endless Trench’.
Its streets, featured in scenes such as those of the procession, and the interiors of several houses were used as period decoration. Peoples’ furniture and personal objects were also utilised to recreate the atmosphere of the time.
The house belonging to Higinio, a central character of ‘The Endless Trench’, is still standing although, its interior has changed considerably. The producers wanted the hiding place to be as realistic as possible, which meant excavating one of the rooms.
