Although it has now disappeared, the origin of tourism on the Costa del Sol lies in the Montemar Parador Hotel, which was created by the pioneer Carlota Alessandri in the 1930s. Located in the ‘Cortijo de Cucazorra’ and situated on the front line, this hotel opened its doors in 1934, when Torremolinos was no more than a fishing village. The Montemar no longer exists, but its visit is a must-see in La Carihuela, the zero kilometre of the Costa del Sol and the Malaga of cinema.

In the late 1950s, the legendary Brigitte Bardot, ‘BB’, who had just starred in the controversial film ‘And God created woman’, arrived at this also legendary hotel in La Carihuela and extended her image as a sex symbol with the filming of ‘Jewelers of the Moonlight’ in the Malaga province, a torrid story of a forbidden love affair with Stephen Boyd (the evil Messala from ‘Ben-Hur’).
