El palomo cojo tells the story of a ten-year-old boy who, suffering from an illness, moves from his father’s apartment to his grandparents’ house seeking rest and tranquillity during the months of June, July and August of 1958. What appeared to be a boring summer for the boy ends up being a real journey of initiation in which he discovers the ways of the adults, the extravagances of his family members and his own homosexuality.
The house where ‘El palomo cojo’ was shot belonged to the grandparents of Eduardo Mendicutti, the author of the novel on which the film is based. Now converted into a hotel, it had to be entirely furnished for the filming, as each room corresponded to the character of the protagonist who lived in it, which made the task even more difficult.
